Projects, Wishes, and Reality

Knitting is like any other hobby for me, I absolutely love it when I start & dream of the wonderful things I'll be making... so I start buying yarn & needles & patterns and containers for holding all my lovelies... and then Reality steps in. Some days I actually accomplish something, and these past few days were some of those - I made the Midnight Roses wristlet from she-knits and I absolutely love it!!! It worked up so quickly, the directions were super simple to follow, and hopefully it will dry soon so I can use it! I've already started another, this one will be a little different in the color scheme but I'm using her same instructions because they were so well written. If you're interested, the bag can be found at http://www.sheknitsforknitters.com/store/.

I'll try to post a pic of my bag when it's dry, as well as the second one when it's done. If that one goes as quickly as the first did, it will be drying by tomorrow night. :)

Vermillion Knitters at Coffee Shop Gallery

Today I got to go to my first meeting at the Coffee Shop Gallery downtown, I had a really nice time starting to get to know the ladies there. Everyone was so welcoming and the Blue Eyes Tea was absolutely yummy - assuming either I can find childcare or (cross your fingers) dh will actually be available I'll be able to go to the next meeting too. I didn't actually knit anything, I knew if I tried I would be frogging later so I think I made a wise choice. The ladies were pretty diverse but had knitting and life in Vermillion in common, which is a great way to begin the bonding process.

Currently I'm listening to a new knitting podcast, missflipknits, and it's pretty enjoyable. I've really been getting into podcasts lately, they're great sources of information and keep me company while I do the obligatory minimal house cleaning so I can rush back to my knitting. :)

My dear friend in adventurous crafting Karen, author & inspiration Kathleen Taylor, and myself at Athena's Fibers in Sioux Falls, SD, at a book signing. I of course didn't reserve a copy of her book in advance, so I didn't get her to sign anything for me but I did get my picture taken with her! I since ordered two of her knitting books, Knit One, Felt Too and I (Heart) Felt, which are amazingly easy to understand even for a novice knitter like me. Apparently she was a fiction writer previously and she recommended I start with The Hotel South Dakota because that was when she "really hit her writing stride." And that one came today in the mail! Yea!

LYS trip today!!!

I am so excited - a friend & I are going to Sioux Falls to Athena's Fibers, our first trip to an official yarn store! We're going for the book signing that Kathleen Turner is doing, I checked out her Knit One, Felt Too from the library and love it so much I'm hoping Athena's has it to buy also. I've got several projects marked that I want to purchase yarn for... the challenge is finding the time to do them in the midst of everything else I want to do! Oh yeah - and do other mundane things like clean & do laundry, etc. :)

I'm hoping to post some pics of my current knitting WIPs on my next post, and maybe even include a pic of my craft room too... which means I need to get my butt moving & get it organized. :)

My Favorite Websites

I need to figure out how to add buttons, but until I do I'll just list some of my favorite websites.

www.knittinghelp.com
www.ravelry.com
www.lionbrand.com
www.greenmountaincoffee.com

www.knitpicks.com

In the beginning, there was nothing.

As far as I know, the internet really doesn't exist to be able to touch it or for it to have an actual permanent place it can be found, yet it has taken such a prominent place in our lives that so many people, myself included, would have a hard time living without it. Having said that, I've decided it's time to expand my own horizons and start my own blog. I have no idea what I'm doing. That will be extremely apparent as I continue, but I'm taking a leap into the unknown anyway. My plans for my blog are for this to be a place to keep a record of my variety of hobbies and list my favorite websites... but that could very well change. After all, life is all about change.

And so the journey begins.
